Self Reflection

Self Reflection

Currently, I am a second year student at Coventry University studying Media and Communications. After coming from an engineering background prior to university, I chose to study this course to gain an insight into different parts of the media industry and to learn about a broad scope of techniques used. During my first year at university, I decided that I wanted to direct my career course down an international journalistic route. I have always had an interest in global politics and the ways in which the media is used in politics. To help me on the path to my desired career, I am also taking part in the Global Leaders Programme at university. This course allows me to learn about and improve global networking skills and to gain international industry experience.

I have also recently started a blog, where I write about a wide variety of topics from makeup to sports to politics. This allows me to explore different styles of writing within each topic. I have also been applying for volunteering opportunities which involve creating different styles of content to promote charities and events. This allows me to put the skills that I have learnt into practice whilst also helping good causes.

To be able to get closer to being able to achieve my dream career in journalism, I need to be able to gain work experience within the industry. By having work experience it will allow me to put the skills and theories that I have learnt at university into practice. Work experience will also give me the opportunity to work alongside professionals within the industry as well as being a start to networking myself to help my career in the future. I will also need to attend journalism workshops to learn skills and techniques that are specific to the journalism industry and will be essential for my career in the future.

The most important thing I need to keep doing to be able to achieve my dream career in the future is to remain positive and to make the most of opportunities that arise.
