Vlacherna Monastery – Corfu
Located just south of Corfu Old Town is Vlacherna Monastery. This monastery was built during the 17th Century and is a beautiful white stone building. The monastery is set out into the bay and is surrounded by the sea. At the monastery there is a small chapel and, just like many places in Corfu, you will be sure to see many cats bathing in the sunshine.
To get to the monastery, you can take a fascinating walk across a narrow causeway that reaches all the way across the bay through the sea. This causeway is located very close to the end of the runway at Corfu Airport and therefore is a must-see location for those who have a keen interest in plane watching – but equally a fascinating sight to see even for those who aren’t into plane spotting.
This monastery is a beautiful sight and a must-see for visitors to Corfu Island. For those interested, located very close to Vlacherna Monastery is Mouse Island, which you can reach by a short boat trip from the monastery.
